March Fishing Report – Fishing Tuna Coast Panama

March Fishing Report

After surviving the rains that lasted through mid-February, March turned out to be a great month for our guests. With four groups paying us a visit, we traded in the rain for wind and large swells. The conditions had us planning our fishing days around the weather forecast. Because of the wind and swells, we decided to stay close to the lodge.  Staying close fishing Tuna Coast Panama, meaning we could arrive at our fishing destination for the day in less than 30 minutes.

Just like February, our guests had plenty of opportunities to catch tuna. Since we didn’t venture far from the lodge, we concentrated on such sites as Cebaco Island, Punta Naranjo, and our famous “Tuna Coast.” And as our guests can attest, when it comes to Panama offshore fishing, it doesn’t get any better than the areas around El Rio Negro. With so many tuna in the cool waters, our fishermen were able to get their fill each and every day.

Fishing Tuna Coast Panama means variety of fish caught

And to make the days even more interesting, our guests had the chance to use a variety of techniques when catching the tuna. For example, on some days when fishing Tuna Coast Panama our guests found it best to use live bait. Especially when the tuna were swimming beside the boat. But on other days, it turned out using poppers and frozen sardines to chum was the best bet. In either case, our guests got great results.

When we ventured into deeper waters, the tuna didn’t disappoint. Using jigs, our guests found plenty of tuna for the taking. Some of the most exciting fishing our guests had in March was dropping a jig in the water. The tuna would nail it and run hard. When this happened, our fishermen knew they were in for a real fight. But in the end, our anglers won each and every time. Proving that when it comes to fishing Tuna Coast Panama fishermen have perhaps the most fun of anybody.

Wahoo and much more in March

But just like it was in previous months, there were lot of other fish in the sea waiting to be caught. For our March guests, that meant plenty of wahoo. Somewhat rare, these fish were a welcome sight to our guests, and made each day even more exciting. Caught in a spot we refer to as “Wahoo Alley,” we found most of our wahoo here. This spot is on our way to Punta Naranjo. A great way to start the day while heading out to snag some tuna. Our guests found themselves excited to fill their coolers with plenty of fish at the end of the day.

As we look forward to the months ahead, we have no doubt the guests that find their way here to El Rio Negro will find it to be the best fishing lodge in Panama. Whether it’s tuna or wahoo, our guests are sure to leave here with plenty of fish as well as great memories.
