Fishing Lodge Panama – April/May Fishing Report

April And May Tuna Coast Fishing Report Panama

April and May were great months for all the anglers here at El Rio Negro sport fishing lodge. We had great weather, clear waters, and no wind. The anglers we hosted had rod bending experiences to remember for a lifetime.

Regulars at the Lodge

Our first group have been regular visitors at our lodge for the last 12 years. And as usual, they were not disappointed by the fishing here in Panama this last round. Since they like to fish near the lodge and not go on far runs, we ran to a spot 20 minutes away. Once there, we found plenty of amberjack, grouper and snapper. However, the real excitement came at Punta Naranjo, where we came across a ton of bait action and plenty of tuna for the taking amongst the chaos of the birds. We rinsed and repeated for three concurrent days of fishing. All three days produced great results while nearing a full moon.

Topwater Action

The other anglers we had also had great results, since they were also interested in catching plenty of tuna and using topwater plugs on the catch. We headed out to Coiba Island and Isla Jicarita which is about a 2 hour run for us, where we found great success over two days. Using a variety of techniques, our guests were able to catch some decent size tuna on poppers. The other days we were able to use live bait (coinuja) which gave great results with the broom tail grouper. Topping off the experience for this duo of anglers, we ventured into deeper waters and dropped our jigs. And once we did, the tuna again were nailing them, giving our anglers plenty of exhilarating moments they’re sure to remember.

First-timers

Finally, our third group was two friends who were first-time visitors to our fishing lodge Panama. Fishing near the lodge, these guests had their sights set on wahoo. Since these fish are somewhat rare and can be tough to catch, we headed out to “Wahoo Alley,” which is near Punta Naranjo. Once there, our guests were able to snag many wahoo, in addition to plenty of tuna.

Over these two months, our guests had plenty of fun. They certainly had plenty of stories they could share with everyone when they arrived home. If you’re interested in having the fishing experience of a lifetime, discover the best Panama fishing packages here at El Rio Negro Sport Fishing Lodge.
