June / July Fishing Report – Fish and fun with custom Panama fishing trip

When June and July rolled around here at El Rio Negro Sport Fishing Lodge, the rainy season was in full swing, scattered showers daily along with a decent variety of fish which included amberjack, cubera snapper, grouper and of course plenty of Tuna. While we had a few days where the weather was a bit windy and rough, our guests persevered and still managed to get in some great fishing behind the mountains of Cerra Hoya National Park and Isla Roncador.

All told, they got in multiple days of good offshore fishing and had two days off to enjoy other activities and rest up. On the fishing days, offshore fishing with poppers and live bait was on the agenda, along with some estuary fishing in the Gulf of Montijo, which is also located near our lodge. Taking advantage of the numerous boiling schools of tuna, the Tuna Coast yielded its fair share of fish for release and for supper at the end of the day. But while the fishing was fun for everyone, the activities on the non-fishing days were also an interesting change of pace. We helped plan a custom panama fishing trip for them. From kayaking down the Rio Negro in Mariato, to experiencing a stand-up paddleboard in the waves, these guests had plenty of activities packed into their Panama Adventure. And to top things off, they also got to enjoy a guided hike and lunch in Cerro Hoya National Park, the mountain jungle reserve located only an hour away from our lodge.

While most of the weather in June was good, July gave us a few challenging days. Due to some rainy weather, we had to adjust our fishing plans so we could avoid some storms in the area. However, since our guests knew things like this can happen at this time of year, they were very good sports about everything. And since both of the groups we hosted in July came well-prepared for the weather by having rain gear with them, they were still able to get in a good mix of inshore and offshore fishing. As a result, they were rewarded for their efforts by catching variety of species. All in all our guests each had and enjoyed a great custom panama fishing trip.
