Panama Fishing Report – March 2016

March is a very exciting time to be fishing in Panama because we catch plenty of large tuna we see much more tuna activity by poppers as well! (We’ll explain that statement a little further down.) The El Rio Negro team recently hosted the Ohio Boys and the Bates Family for ten days. As always happens during our Panama sport fishing excursions, everyone had a great time.

Before we explain the unusual excitement we enjoyed on the water, you should know our gorgeous country offers more than Panama sport fishing. Panama has countless land adventures for our guests. For example, the Ohio Boys had a great time at the Ron Abuelo rum factory on their day off. During their tour, the Ohio Boys sampled rum aged to 5, 7 and 12 years and enjoyed delicious Panamanian cuisine. As many of our guests know, our lodge is a great place for the entire family. Even if some of your travel companions aren’t interested in going out on the water, there are countless activities on land. No one is ever bored at El Rio Negro!

Now we’ll tell you all about the actual fishing in Panama so you can picture yourself in the middle of the action. During this 10-day excursion, we took the Ohio Boys and the Bates Family on near shore trips for popping and jigging. These excursions were very successful – we caught tuna, grouper and amberjack. Check out this drone footage. It shows the excitement of fishing in Panama, the beautiful scenery and ends with a popper attack on the drone. The popper won that fight for sure!

As you can see from the video footage, El Rio Negro excursions are top-notch fishing experiences and our clients have the time of their lives. We don’t have any drone video of the Ron Abuelo tour but we have it on very good authority that it’s not to be missed. Whether our clients are watching a wild popper go after a drone, enjoying delicious rum or simply relaxing at our lodge – everyone goes home with wonderful stories.
