  • “Awesome experience!”

Our stay at The Rio Negro Panama Sport Fishing Lodge was great for the whole family. The Lodge itself is well laid out for families, small groups or single visitors. It has multiple areas to hang out, inside or out, wonderful furnishings, comfy beds and cold a/c. Hanging at the lodge is almost as much fun as fishing. 😉 Personal, attentive service by Capt. Ahah and Lauren as well as their staff make it like a home away from home. Can't think of a better place to fish and enjoy the best Charter Fishing in Central America. Go get some! - WH

  • “Beautiful Location & Accomodations; 1st Class Service & Fishing”

I visited the wonderful Rio Negro Panama Sport Fishing Lodge with my husband and two children. We stayed for five nights and I wished it could have been ten! My daughter and I did not fish, but we had plenty to see and do on dry land in this incredibly scenic part of Panama. While we weren't out exploring Mariato and the surrounding areas, we relaxed at the beautifully appointed lodge and enjoyed delicious meals. I have to have the utmost confidence in any captain I will entrust with the safety of my husband and son. Captain Alex keeps safety first while making sure that anglers of all ages have the experience of a lifetime! - MM

  • “Top notch fishing lodge”

I have fished several times at the original lodge back in 2004. It was closed for 3 years and has recently been reopened. The son and daughter-in-law of one of the original owners now operate the lodge. They have made many innovating improvements. In summary, this is an experience that most will never have. The remote location ensures a memorable fishing experience with numerous and very large species. I have fished all over the world, and this is by far the most unique and productive. In addition, you will experience comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and friendly and attentive service throughout your visit. You won't be disappointed. - DH

  • “Fun & Sun”

My uncle and I visited the Rio Negro Fishing Lodge recently and had an awesome time! The accommodations were beyond expectations, food was excellent, and fishing/guide services were outstanding. There is also several great surfing spots close by I had the opportunity to sample. I had some great waves and the locals were all very friendly. - KG

  • “Amazing Place!”

I recently visited the Rio Negro Fishing lodge earlier this month and I'm already planning another trip back! The accommodations at the lodge were great - clean, spacious, and quiet. The food was perfect and the hospitality made me feel right at home. The fishing was world class and I got to see all kinds of sea life, with beautiful island views & clear warm water. Panama itself is an amazing place. I traveled to other regions in the country, I always felt safe and have met some amazing people. Rio Negro Fishing Lodge was by far my best experience, a Great place with even better people! Definitely recommend visiting if you want to fish/surf/dive, relax, and enjoy some laughs with good company! - RG

  • “WOW, what an awesome fishing experience”

We recently went fishing with the Alex, the owner of the Rio Negro Lodge, and two of his assistants. We boarded a very comfortable, custom made 30 foot fishing vessel. Alex and his crew were attentive to every detail, courteous, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun to spend two days with. Fishing was excellent, food equally delicious, and this part of Panama spectacular. Can't wait to return later this year! - ED

  • “Fishing Paradise!!!”

I spent 5 glorious days of fishing as a Christmas present from my daughter & son-in-law. It was a trip of a lifetime. My dream come true.
I was able to choose from many different lodges, but I made the right choice in Rio Negro.
Hosts Lauren & Alex were most gracious & attentive. I was well taken care of. Their crew were also amazing. Miguel & Robert are so knowledgeable. The accommodations were more than I expected & the food was incredible!! I loved the Panamanian cuisine. It was delicious.
Lauren even made a cake for my 60th birthday. I have told many people about my experience & I will definitely be back.
Rio Negro Fishing lodge is a fishing paradise. - DJ

  • “Great Trip & hosts!!”

It has been ten days since we left and I cannot wait to go back!! Lauren and Alex are exceptional hosts.
The lodge is nicer than the pictures portray. Two bedroom / two bath air conditioned unit with a large rec room nicely decorated in a rustic style with complete bar. Beds are very comfortable and after 12 hours of fishing, they were a “dream” to crash in!
Meals were superb. We requested Panamanian food and totally enjoyed each dinner! First night, we had fresh ahi sashimi appetizer that was out of this world with a delicious local wasabi that made me tear up. Another night we had empanada appetizers. These were some of the best empanadas I experienced in 35 years of tasting empanadas throughout Panama. Every meal was excellent, always too much food packed on the boat with salads, sandwiches and fresh fruit. Pasta salad was all I needed to keep me going through the day! Plenty of water/ Gatorade to hydrate and national beer to celebrate the experience.
Fishing was tough with winds from the north switching to the south and driving warm water in. Bait was difficult to catch. Regardless, Capt. Alex and Miguel worked hard for 12 hour plus each day, to get us on fish. We caught a few highlighted by a 91 pound yellowfin, two white tuna and a Sierra. Max run was two hours to Isla Jicarita and less than 45 minutes past Cerro Hoya. Filled a cooler with fillets, vacuum packed and flash frozen. The boat, Senor Magoo, is an excellent fishing boat custom designed for max fishing performance on the Veraguas coast powered by two new 200HP Yamahas. Storage is ample with well maintained, top notch fishing equipment for various situations.
Scenery of the islands and the Veraguas coast is beautiful. The lodge’s distal location provides for a very unique experience in Panama, even for one who has been to Panama many times.
While our time seemed too short, my wife and I had an excellent time visiting The Rio Negro Fishing Lodge. Alex and Lauren deliver superb customer service and demonstrate tremendous passion for their business. We wish them the very best for future success! - TR

  • “Good to be back!”

My wife & I fished Rio Negro 8 years ago. My first visit was Sept. '04. Tom Giles & the late Alex Sr. were in charge. We recently returned this past April & returned in May with another angler. We recommend the Lodge to anyone looking to be 'off the beaten path' & challenging fishing. Forget about using a cellphone, internet, & TV to fully appreciate & enjoy the Lodge, cuisine, staff, Alex & the lovely Lauren.

We have fished along the Pacific coast over 13 years. If you are looking to stay away from the big marina/hotel type accommodations, Rio Negro is the ticket! -JO

  • “The Rio Negro Fishing Lodge was definitely a life time experience!”

The best part of vacationing in Panama was fishing with the Rio Negro! The captain and the staff were incredibly friendly and knew what they were doing. Sadly I didn't have the chance to stay at the lodge but when I go back to Panama my family and I are definitely staying here! It was so beautiful and more of a experience than staying in a well known resort. - MS

  • “Next generation getting it right!”

We returned to Rio Negro this spring with high expectations ... and they were met. The lodge was great, the equipment was excellent, and the company (Alex & Lauren) couldn't have been better. What could be nicer than returning from a day out on the water to a delicious spread and a cool drink in the air conditioned lodge? First rate stuff. Speaking of first rate Alex Jr. has found a real gem in Captain Miguelito ... this is a real pro who will put you on the fish and make sure you get them on board. We were using lightish tackle and nailing good sized (30 lbs) yellowfin - good times! Alex keeps the gear in terrific condition (you do not need to bring your own) and has the equipment on board to handle any fish, any time. The boats are very comfortable and Alex & crew do their best to find the fish ... they worked very hard to make sure we got on them. Even though the guys are serious about fishing they are fun to fish with and we had a ball. Even though he won't admit it, Alex is a huge fan of Herb Alpert so if you go be sure to bring him a CD, t-shirt, or better yet bring a bluetooth player so you can get some Tijuana Taxi on the boat. Can't wait to go back! -PK

  • “Such a Great experience”

If you're looking for the perfect get away The Rio Negro Fishing lodge is the perfect vacation spot! The beach is a block away where you can have the perfect fishing/ surfing experience. I spent almost my entire trip on the beach shore and didn't have to look anywhere else for a perfect view. The staff was wonderful you felt like you were family the food was on point as well. Over all great hospitality and service. Im planning on going back ASAP. I wish I was there right now! - JR
